Background

Current disinfectants used in both industrial spaces as well as consumer markets all contain highly corrosive and irritating chemicals. Sodium hypochlorite and phenolic compounds are among the harsh chemicals used. These chemicals cause short and long term harmful effects to both the cleaning personnelle in contact with these harsh chemicals as well as to the surfaces themselves. One of the major identified problems was the accelerated rusting affect the current disinfectants have on metallic manufacturing equipment surfaces and the highly corrosive and respiratory tract irritation effect on humans.

Technology Overview

The technology is a nanotechnology-based disinfectant solution that is entirely made from natural materials and is clear of any hazardous or harsh chemicals that are harmful to humans as well as to machinery and metal surfaces. The disinfectant product relies on converting natural polysaccharides like chitosan into nanofibers mixed with some FDA approved polymers by using the Electrospinning technique. The disinfectant solution has a uniquely strong antibacterial effect, preventing the spreading of bacteria on the surfaces it’s applied to and can be applied on a variety of surfaces such as epoxy, painted floors, walls, stainless steel surfaces in hospitals and pharmaceutical and medical factories. In addition, these disinfectant solutions have strong anti-corrosive abilities and prevent rust formation on machinery and production lines.

Stage of Development

  • Antibacterial test carried out against E.coli and S. aureus
  • Anti-corrosion testing on iron nails
  • Anti-bacterial testing on various surfaces
  • Sample prototype

Benefits

  • The manufacturing process of the Nanofibers is straightforward and simple
  • The Active Ingredient are made of natural materials
  • Does not contain the aggressive chemicals and highly corrosive chemicals found in current disinfectants
  • The Nanofibers have unique abilities to prevent the growth and accumulation of bacteria on top of different surfaces
  • The Nanofibers have strong anticorrosive power to prevent rust formation on manufacturing and production lines

Applications

Soluble PVA and Chitosan Nanofibers to be used as an antibacterial and disinfecting agent for various Surfaces (Glass, Ceramics, Epoxy, Stainless Steel, etc…) and in various sectors like, General Manufacturing Facilities, Hospitals and Healthcare Clinics and Hygiene Consumer Products, etc..)
